Many leaders remember an “a-ha!” moment — the instant in which an idea was born and jumpstarted with real passion into a successful operation. Almost two decades ago, Nate Wenner had a similar moment of his own. Working as a manager at a “Big Four” CPA firm, he began to realize that the most fulfilling and rewarding aspects of his job involved helping clients realize their goals. He lived for the personal conversations focused on their vision for the future — whether it be for their family or business — and working together to develop a clear, concise roadmap for getting there.
As a principal and regional director with Wipfli Hewins Investment Advisors, Nate gets to help his clients live their “light-bulb moments” every day. Leveraging his expertise in tax, succession, retirement and investment planning, Nate specializes in developing well-conceived, integrated financial plans for individuals, families and a range of businesses, from sole medical practitioners to multigenerational family enterprises.
"The fact that I work for my clients as a fee-based financial planner enables me to focus on the most important aspect of my work – my clients. "
- Nate Wenner
Not only do Nate’s clients represent different career paths and stages in life, they also come to him with a variety of needs, some of which are highly specialized and complex. Nate approaches every client’s situation from a position of discovery, serving as a sounding board for their questions and concerns so he can develop the most tailored, personalized plan possible.
One of Nate’s key areas of expertise is advising individuals or business owners who are ready to start transitioning out of their career-job or business — this might be into a new professional focus or into life after the workforce. Whether they’re looking for a strategy to sustain their income in retirement, or considering a potential sale and need to manage the subsequent tax impact, Nate is passionate about helping his clients navigate the next phase of their lives on their own terms and conditions. When his clients are approaching major transitions, he strives to provide clarity, perspective and peace of mind, adjusting their plan as their goals evolve over time.
Above all, Nate takes pride in lifting one less concern off his clients’ shoulders — serving as a dedicated, trusted advisor and a partner in their family’s future success.
Outside of the office, Nate is a valuable resource to his local financial planning community. He is past president of the Financial Planning Association (FPA) of Minnesota; served on the Personal Financial Specialist Committee for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA); and was also an adjunct faculty instructor for the Financial Planning Certificate Program (FPCP) at Minnesota State University-Mankato. He is currently a volunteer board member for the American Diabetes Association (ADA) of Minnesota and an active investment committee member for Catholic Charities of St. Paul and Minneapolis and for Ecumen.
