Martha Post

Martha is responsible for overseeing the operations, client service and research functions at HFA. She serves as head of the Investment Committee. Prior to her current position, Martha served as Portfolio Manager and provided account management services to HFA’s institutional clients, including asset allocation modeling/portfolio optimization, manager research and analysis, portfolio monitoring and performance review. Martha had been with PR Taylor for four years before the formation of HFA.

Before joining PR Taylor, Martha spent eight years in investment management, where she played a central role in both portfolio management and operations. She was a Portfolio Analyst at Fisher Investments, Inc., where she was a member of the Investment Policy Committee and was responsible for company research and portfolio analysis. Earlier, as Portfolio Administrator at Leylegian Investment Management, Inc., she managed administrative and operational functions and systems, traded stocks and bonds, assisted in portfolio management and managed short-term fixed income accounts.

Martha has a B.A. degree in History from Dartmouth College, and has earned the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.

Jandy Kabat

Jandy is responsible for overall client service, including new client account implementation, monitoring portfolio activity and asset allocation, performance reporting and special projects. She supervises the client service team and administrative staff. Before joining HFA, Jandy worked for two years at DST Systems, a transfer agent for a large number of mutual funds. Her role included managing client accounts and handling requests from brokers/dealers. While at DST, Jandy was promoted to Team Coordinator, where she supervised a staff of nine associates. She was also awarded Associate of the Year 2000 and Associate of the Quarter September 1999 and September 2000. Jandy has a B.A. degree in History from the University of Massachusetts, Boston.

Laura Cisneros

Laura is responsible for providing a high level of support to the family and institutional clients of Roger Hewins. She prepares asset allocation analyses, financial plans, and investment policy statements and reviews all client performance reports, client invoices and implementation plans.

Prior to the move to HFA, Laura had been with PR Taylor in a similar capacity for six years. Before joining PR Taylor, she was a Supervising Senior Tax Specialist at KPMG Peat Marwick in San Francisco, with a wide range of analytic and supervisory responsibilities within the firm’s tax practice and Personal Advisory Service Group. Laura graduated from California State University at Hayward with a B.S. degree in Finance and has her M.S. degree in Financial Planning from Golden Gate University. She is a Certified Public Accountant.


Dr. William F. Massy
Endowment Consultant

Dr. Massy serves as Endowment Consultant to select Hewins Financial Advisors clients. He has been active in university finance and investment management for over twenty years. During his fifteen-year tenure as Vice President for Business and Finance and Chief Financial Officer of Stanford University, Dr. Massy developed and pioneered the use of spending, investment, and financial management tools that have become standards in the field of higher education. Under his stewardship, Stanford’s endowment grew to over $2 billion. Dr. Massy’s work includes models for determining endowment spending rates, strategies for asset diversification, and methods for institutional resource allocation.

Dr. Massy has been a member of the faculty at Stanford’s Graduate School of Business since 1962, starting as an assistant professor and subsequently serving the School as an Associate and full Professor, Director of the Doctoral Program, Director of Research, and Associate Dean. At the University level, he served as Vice Provost for Research, Acting Provost prior to becoming Vice President, and Professor and Director of Stanford’s Institute for Higher Education Research in the School of Education.

Dr. Massy is an active advisor and consultant to universities and colleges, businesses, and private foundations. He has extensive board experience in both the private and public sectors. His current activities include serving as a director of Diebold Inc. and as a member of the University Grants Committee for the Government of Hong Kong. Dr. Massy is also the author of numerous publications. His book, Planning Models for Colleges and Universities, won the Lanchester Prize in 1981, and more recently his endowment management monograph, Endowment: Perspectives, Policy and Management (1990), received wide national attention. His latest book, Resource Allocation in Higher Education, was published in 1998.

Dr. Massy holds a Ph.D. in Economics, an S.M. in Industrial Management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a B.S. with high honors in Industrial Administration from Yale University.

Mikhael Balachov

Mikhael is responsible for the portfolio accounting, trading and reporting functions at Hewins. He oversees the firm's portfolio accounting system and production of all client reports. As head of trading, he is responsible for trading client accounts, portfolio rebalancing, tax loss harvesting and the implementation of investment committee decisions across client portfolios. Mikhael also supports the investment committee with research and analysis and assists with the in-house IT support.

Mikhael started out with Hewins as a high school intern in 1999 and returned after graduating from the University of California, Davis in 2005 as a Client Service Specialist, addressing the needs of HFA's high net worth clients. He served as Portfolio Accountant before assuming the Operations Manager role in 2007.

Mikhael has a B.A. in Economics and a B.S. in Biological Sciences with an emphasis in Microbiology.

Diane Kelvie

Diane has been with the firm since its inception and is responsible for the administrative functions including Accounting and Finance, Human Resources, Facilities and Information Technology. Prior to joining Hewins, she was Controller at Lynx Therapeutics from 1994 to 1999, and at Applied Biosystems from 1986 to 1993. Diane has a B.S. in Business Administration from Indiana University and an MBA from University of California, Berkeley.
